The Youth Justice unit provides intake, supervision and case management services to youth, ages 5 and up, who are at risk for formal court involvement. The team is responsible for holding youth accountable for their behaviors, while acknowledging there are factors specific to youth that play a role in their actions.
The Youth Justice team strives to move away from the punitive model of youth justice to a more trauma sensitive model. The team assesses the youth’s strengths and needs and individualizes services for the youth and their family, so services are more likely to be effective. The team’s goal in providing services is to increase community safety by building competencies in youth that make them better citizens.
