Land Disturbance, Erosion Control & Storm Water Management
In 1990, the Walworth County Board of Supervisors adopted a County-wide Construction Site Erosion Control Ordinance. Most construction sites in the 16 townships of Walworth County are required to have a county-approved Land Disturbance, Erosion Control and Storm Water Management Plan and Permit. The ordinance sets standards to contain soil, use engineered measures to intercept sediment, manage stormwater discharges and establish vegetation on construction sites to protect downstream water resources and property during and after development. Walworth County was the first county in the state of Wisconsin to adopt a Construction Site Erosion Control Ordinance.
Construction in Shorelands
Any construction within the shoreland area must have a County-approved Land Disturbance, Erosion Control and Storm Water Management Permit and Plan. The shoreland is defined as "that area lying within 300 feet of creek, stream or channel or 1,000 feet of a lake.
Pond Construction
Ponds constructed in Walworth County require County-approval by Land Management as well as Land Conservation. A Zoning Permit, as well as a Land Disturbance, Erosion Control and Storm Water Management Permit, must be obtained. The Land Disturbance, Erosion Control and Storm Water Management Ordinance outlines the requirements to be followed that will ensure compliance with the permit.
