Explore 4-H Night

As the country’s largest youth development organization, 4-H empowers young people to build life skills by leading hands-on projects. Families that are interested in learning what 4-H is all about should stop by the Explore 4-H Night event on Monday, October 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Walworth County Fairgrounds Activity Center. Hosted by Walworth County 4-H, the free, family-friendly event will feature fun, hands-on activities, meet-and-greets with animal friends, information about leadership and travel opportunities, a 4-H shooting sports activity, and more.
QPR Training at Aram Library Oct. 5

Are you ready to learn how you can support your community and save lives? Sign up to attend a free QPR Suicide Prevention Training on October 5, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., at Delavan’s Aram Public Library, 404 E. Walworth Ave.

Volunteers Wanted for Park Work Days

Does your idea of the perfect work day involve fresh air, pulling weeds, and getting dirty? Do you love our County parks? If so, join us! We’re looking for volunteers to help with an upcoming park work day on Friday, Sept. 30, from 9 a.m. to noon, at White River County Park. The Walworth County Parks Department and Kettle Moraine Land Trust are looking for volunteers for a prairie seed collection event on Saturday, October 1, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Price Park Conservancy, N6421 Hodunk Road, Elkhorn.

Applications Due September 30: Walworth County and the United Way of Walworth County Grant-Funding Program

The deadline for local non-profit agencies to apply for the Walworth County and United Way of Walworth County American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant-funding program is September 30, 2022, at noon.
Agencies interested in applying should contact United Way of Walworth County CEO Tammy Dunn at (262) 374-4474, or access the application at https://unitedwaywalworth.org.
Local non-profits may apply for grants between $1,000 and $7,500.
Grants may be utilized for assistance implementing COVID-19 prevention or mitigation tactics; technical assistance, consulting, or other services for business planning; assistance with payroll support, costs to retain employees or other operating costs; or assistance to those impacted by COVID-19.
Only 501(c)(3) organizations may apply. To be eligible, organizations must maintain their principal place of business in Walworth County, conduct business in Walworth County, and serve people within Walworth County.

Walworth County Clinics to Offer Updated Booster Vaccines

The Walworth County Department of Health and Human Services will hold two free COVID vaccine clinics on October 6 and 13. Both clinics will only administer the updated Pfizer booster. Dates and times are:

No ID or insurance is required. Attendees are asked to bring their vaccination cards to be updated. Interpreter services are available.

ADRC Healthy Living with Diabetes

People with diabetes or pre-diabetes can improve their health by joining a Healthy Living with Diabetes workshop sponsored by the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Walworth County. The program has been researched and proven to improve the health of adults with diabetes or pre-diabetes. During the six weekly sessions, Healthy Living with Diabetes gives participants strategies for managing diabetes, including techniques to deal with symptoms and information about healthy eating, appropriate use of medication, exercise, and working effectively with health care providers. Participants learn to make realistic, achievable action plans, share their experiences, and help each other solve problems.
Healthy Living with Diabetes will be held in the Community Room on Tuesdays, October 4 to November 8, 2022, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., at the Woodview Park Apartments located at 353 Tyrell Court, Delavan. The workshop has a suggested donation of $10.

Dementia Basics Presentation

In the United States, there are currently more than 6 million people living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. That number is expected to double by 2040. Given the disease’s prevalence, most people will likely encounter dementia in their lives, be it with a spouse, parent, grandparent, or friend. Learn about this devastating disease, the different types of dementia, and warning signs during the Dementia Basics presentation led by Walworth County ADRC Dementia Care Specialist Jake Sawyers on September 30, at 3:30 p.m., at Walworth Public Library, 525 Kenosha St., Walworth.
Rent Smart Virtual Program

UW-Extension Walworth County is hosting free, online instruction sessions via Zoom to help potential renters, current renters, or those wanting to help family members gain knowledge to secure a rental. During the six sessions, attendees will learn how to plan for and meet monthly expenses, tips for finding and maintaining affordable housing, how to complete a rental application, strategies for building positive relationships with landlords, and the responsibilities and rights of landlords and tenants.
October classes are scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays, from 7 to 8 p.m. Classes are also being held in November.

Community Events: What's Going on Around the County
Ready or not, here come the holiday events. On Saturday, October 1, the Elkhorn Holiday Craft Bash takes over the Walworth County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 300 crafters, artisans, and food booths. Admission is $5. Geneva Lake Conservancy’s third-annual Road Rally is on Saturday, October 1, from 3 to 7 p.m. The driving tour will cruise through various Geneva Lake and Delavan area preserves and easement properties. Dinner will be served at Covenant Harbor’s lodge. Buy tickets online. The 21st Annual East Troy Lions Car and Bike Show, on Saturday, October 1, starting at 9 a.m., celebrates all things on wheels, plus there will be goody bags, raffles, music, food, and fun.
