Clover University Hosts Fun Classes for Kids - Register Today!

Kids can learn how to make soap, a no-sew fleece blanket, tie their own fishing flies, decorate cookies, or take better photos at UW-Extension Walworth County’s Clover University, held on Wednesday, December 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Government Center, 100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn. Classes are appropriate for kids in grades 5 and up. Participants can choose from either one 90-minute class or two 45-minute classes. Property Taxes due January 31

Property tax bills started hitting mailboxes this week. If you do not receive yours by December 31, contact your municipal treasurer. Don’t forget to pay by January 31! Attention, Farmers: UW-Extension Private Pesticide Applicator Training & Testing

UW-Extension of Jefferson, Rock, and Walworth Counties will offer pesticide applicator training and testing for farmers who need to renew their private pesticide applicator certificates in 2023. Approximately 85 farmers in Walworth County will be impacted.
Previously, the State of Wisconsin mailed letters directly to farmers with expiring certificates. However, letters will not be mailed this year. Farmers can check the expiration date on their certificate cards or search http://www.kellysolutions.com/WI/Applicators/index.asp.
In-person private pesticide applicator training/testing will be hosted on February 1 in Jefferson and on March 16 in Whitewater. Register for training online at https://fyi.extension.wisc.edu/pat/.
Testing alone will be offered by appointment only between January and April on the second and fourth Thursdays in Walworth County, on Wednesdays in Jefferson, and on the first and third Tuesdays in Rock County.

Job of the Week: Senior Maintenance Technician III

Walworth County is hiring a Senior Maintenance Technician III. This position is responsible for the overall repair and maintenance of county grounds, facilities, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner following current federal, state, and local standards. This person serves as a team lead worker and takes responsibility for all preventive/corrective maintenance performed in or on County buildings, as well as installation and repair projects performed in-house or by contracted skilled trades (i.e. HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.). Candidates should have relevant experience and/or certifications in HVAC/refrigeration, building/facilities maintenance, electrical, or plumbing. Memory Cafes
This week, the Walworth County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) will host Memory Cafes in Burlington, Delavan, and Lake Geneva. Memory Cafés are social gatherings for those who are experiencing early-stage dementia, mild memory loss, or mild cognitive impairment, and for their families, friends, or caregivers. The events are centered on sharing experiences and connecting with others.
The Burlington Memory Café will gather on December 16, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Aurora Wellness Center, 300 McCanna Pkwy., Burlington. The Delavan UCC Memory Café will be held on December 19, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at the Delavan United Church of Christ, 123 E. Washington St., Delavan. And the Lake City Social Memory Café will be held on December 20, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., at Lake City Social, 111 Center St., Lake Geneva.
