Local Non-Profits: Don't Miss this February 17 Deadline

Walworth County has awarded the United Way of Walworth County an additional $100,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to be distributed to local nonprofits through an ARPA grant-funding program. 

For this round, eligible agencies can request between $1,000 and $9,000 and may utilize the grant for assistance implementing COVID-19 prevention or mitigation tactics; technical assistance, consulting, or other services for business planning; assistance with payroll support, costs to retain employees or other operating costs; or assistance to those impacted by COVID-19. 

Applications were made available online at www.unitedwaywalworth.org on February 3, 2023. Qualifying 501(c)(3) agencies interested in applying may also contact Tammy Dunn for an application, (262) 374-4474. The deadline to apply is February 17, 2023, at 5 p.m. The goal is to issue the awards by the end of March.

This project is being supported in whole or in part by federal award number FAIN #SLFRP 2146 awarded to Walworth County by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.


Missed the Property Tax Deadline? Here's What You Should Know

Did you miss the property tax deadline? Delinquent property taxes are charged interest and penalty at a rate of 1.5% per month on the unpaid tax bill balance, beginning February 1 until paid in full. All delinquent property taxes are payable to the Walworth County Treasurer’s Office. 

There are 3 ways to pay: 

  • In person at the Walworth County Treasurer’s Office at Government Center, 100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn, Monday through Friday, 8-5 
  • Via the drop box in the Government Center parking lot 
  • Online at www.co.walworth.wi.us

Free Flu Shot Clinic

Department of Health and Human Services hosting free flu shot clinic on February 10

It is not too late to get your flu shot. The Walworth County Department of Health and Human Services is holding a free flu-shot clinic on Friday, February 10, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Matheson Memorial Library in Elkhorn. Walk-ins only, no appointment is needed, while supplies last. You must be 18 years or older. Translation services are available.

Government Center Renovations

Renovations began this week in the Walworth County Clerk, Register of Deeds, and County Administration offices at Government Center. The offices are upgrading their reception areas to meet security recommendations. Construction is anticipated to last three months. All offices will remain open during normal business hours--Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The entrance to the Administration Office will be temporarily relocated to the hallway by the employee-only entrance on the northeast side of the building. 

County Board Meeting Notice

County Board Meeting notice for February 14 2023

On Tuesday, February 14, at 3:30 p.m., the Walworth County Board of Supervisors will hold its monthly meeting.  

The meeting will be held in the County Board Room at Government Center, 100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn. The meeting agenda, supporting documents, and livestream can be accessed at www.co.walworth.wi.us/agendacenter

Individuals wishing to provide Public Comments may do so in person or remotely by phone. To submit a comment by phone, contact the County Administrator’s Office at (262) 741-4357 on the day of the meeting to obtain instructions.

ADRC Events

Dementia 101 is a free, informational program that provides an overview of warning signs and symptoms, diseases that cause dementia, the prognosis of dementia, and how to positively interact with dementia. The program will be held on Sunday, February 12, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at Sugar Creek Lutheran Church, located at N5690 Cobblestone Road, Elkhorn. 

The Mind over Matter: Healthy Bowels, Healthy Bladder program is designed specifically for women ages 50 or older who live independently, have experienced bladder/bowel issues, or are interested in preventing them. Participants can expect to leave with an understanding of how muscles work and exercises that can reduce incontinence. Mind over Matter will be held in the Kettle Moraine Trail room on Mondays, February 13 through March 13, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Walworth County Health and Human Services Building, 1910 County Road NN, Elkhorn. The workshop has a suggested donation of $10.  

Tracking one’s cognition is something that all individuals over the age of 60 should make a habit of, just like monitoring blood pressure. Stop by the free Memory Screen Event at Seniors in the Park in Whitewater on Tuesday, February 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Memory Screens are not diagnostic and will not be able to tell you what is occurring, but they are able to show if there is a possible impairment. 

The first in-person Welcome to Medicare workshops of the year will be held on February 23, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. This workshop is ideally suited to those who will become eligible for Medicare soon. The workshop will cover Medicare benefits, options, insurance coverage, and medication coverage. If you have questions or need assistance with your Medicare benefits, contact Julie Juranek at (262) 741-3400. Interpreters will be provided upon request.

Job of the Week: Resident Assistant

This position is responsible for assisting the residents of Lakeland Health Care Center (LHCC).  This position is a temporary position, providing experience with the facility and LHCC residents prior to starting Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) classes.  At the next time of class offer, it is expected that the Resident Assistant is available to take the CNA class and complete all necessary training.  Training wage is $15.50 per hour plus $2/hour shift differential for PM and NOC shift and $2/hour weekend premium.  Wage increases to $18.11 per hour plus $2/hour shift differential for PM and NOC shift and $2/hour weekend premium with a successful CNA certification.  Learn more and apply online: https://bit.ly/WalCoJobs
