UPDATED May 9, 2023: This news release has been updated to reflect updates to the US Highway 12 construction project:

On May 11, 2023, the southbound Interstate 43 to westbound US Highway 12 ramp will close (heading toward Highway 67/Elkhorn). This closure is anticipated to last seven calendar days, May 11 to 18, 2023.

The westbound (Lake Geneva to Elkhorn) Collector Distributor ramps will re-open by early morning on May 11, 2023. This includes the following:

• USH 12 WEST RAMP TO CTH NN (ELKHORN)
• CTH NN (ELKHORN) RAMP TO USH 12 WEST 
• USH 12 WEST RAMP TO IH 43 NORTH
• IH 43 NORTH RAMP TO USH 12 WEST 
• USH 12 WEST RAMP TO IH 43 SOUTH

Pictured below is a detour map with the dates.  As always, this work is weather dependent.

1. USH 12 WEST WILL BE OPEN TO THROUGH TRAFFIC.
2. DETOUR ROUTES WILL BE SIGNED FOR ALL RAMP CLOSURES, ATTACHED IS A MAP OF DETOUR ROUTES.
3. RAMP CLOSURES ARE ANTICIPATED TO BEGIN APRIL 24^TH AND REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL MAY 8^TH (14 CALENDAR DAYS)

ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE:

Beginning in early April, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will resume roadway and structure improvements along US 12 from Elkhorn to Lake Geneva. As the project progresses into its second year of construction, WisDOT is notifying motorists of what they can expect this year.

What to Expect

• US 12 remains open, but work will be done utilizing single lane closures.
• Beginning the week of April 17th, various ramp and off-highway interchange access roads will have alternating long-term closures within the I-43 and County NN interchanges. Official detours will be signed.
• To help minimize traffic impacts during the Memorial Day weekend, ramps will reopen. After Memorial Day weekend, ramp closures will resume.

Project Recap

• Resurfacing nine miles of US 12 between WIS 50 and WIS 67
• Structure rehabilitation at several bridges and culverts
• New guardrail, signage and pavement marking within the corridor

The contractor, Zignego Company, Inc., is planning on completing the $21.5 million contract by this fall. The schedule of work is weather dependent and subject to change.
