Walworth County boasts three parks—Price Park Conservancy, Natureland Park, and White River County Park—and invites residents to get outside, get involved, and experience our county parks. This fall, our parks are hosting a nature-inspired arts-and-crafts event, two stewardship days, and a prairie seed collection event.
On Saturday, September 16, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, join the Kettle Moraine Land Trust (KMLT) for an unbe-leafable fall art event at Natureland County Park in Whitewater. Participants will make leaf art, pressed leaf collages, leaf rubbings, and leaf-pounding prints. Bring your unique creative abilities and let the autumn season inspire you. Registration is required; please email liza@kmlandtrust.org. Find more information at https://kmlandtrust.org/events. Natureland County Park is located at W8338 Territorial Road, Whitewater.
A “Love Your Parks” stewardship day is scheduled for Friday, September 22, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will assist Geneva Lake Conservancy and Walworth County Parks staff with the removal of invasive species, and planting seed bombs at White River County Park, 6503 Sheridan Springs Road, Lake Geneva.
Volunteers will wade through wildflower prairies to collect prairie seeds on Wednesday, September 27, from 3 to 5:30 p.m., at Price Park Conservancy, N6418 Hodunk Road, Elkhorn. Collecting prairie seeds allows Kettle Moraine Land Trust and Walworth County Parks staff to ensure diversity in the park’s restored prairies, contributing to healthy prairies that support a bevy of insects and animals.
A second “Love Your Parks” stewardship day is scheduled for Friday, November 3, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., at Natureland Park. Volunteers will team up with Kettle Moraine Land Trust and Walworth County Parks staff to help with the removal of invasive plant species.
Those interested in volunteering for seed collection or stewardship days should contact Volunteer Services Coordinator Karin Texidor at (262) 741-4223, ketexidor@co.walworth.wi.us.
