How will PBIS be recognized?: Acknowledging and reinforcing positive behavior is one of the best ways to change inappropriate behavior. At Lakeland School, staff will be rewarding students regularly with UR Cool tickets for displaying characters of good citizenship. Students will be able to recognize their peers by issuing a School Shout Out to be mentioned over the loudspeaker at the start of each day. These students that are recognized will be entered in monthly and quarterly school-wide celebrations.

Lakeland School - Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports (PBIS)

1. What is a (PBIS) Behavior Matrix and how is it used in school?: The behavior matrix is a detailed description of expected behavior in seven settings of our daily school life. For example, in the cafeteria, it is respectful to talk with our peers at our table at a voice level three, and say "Please" and "Thank You." It is responsible and safe to clean your space. The matrix will be posted in classrooms, around school, and sent home.

3. Does PBIS mean that we won’t discipline children for unacceptable behavior?: No, students will still have consequences such as time outs, detentions and/or other necessary forms of discipline. Detentions will continue to be used as a method of reteaching expectations in the school environment.

4. If I, as a parent, have a question about PBIS who can I contact?: Call, email, or write a note to your child's homeroom teacher. All Lakeland School staff will be trained in PBIS.
